Ranveer Singh is undoubtedly the main strength of this film. Kapil Dev seemed to be looking at Ranveer Singh on screen as long as he was acting, capturing all of Kapil Dev's gestures and gait perfectly. Ranveer Singh lives up to his role as Kapil Dev, especially in some of the most emotional scenes.
Deepika Padukone, who played Kapil's wife, also acted well. Like Jeeva and Hardy Sandhu, all the actors have brought a level to the film with their roles and acting. Fastoff went on to emotionally address the insults and hardships faced by Indian cricket at the time. Similarly, winning the 1983 World Cup as the climax scene gave the film a good feel, ending with a catchy timing.
Minus points:
The biggest minus point of this movie is that it doesn't say much about Kapil Dev's personal life as it shows the World Cup episode! How did Kapil Dev grow as a captain? It is disappointing for the audience to have such scenes in this movie!
The film manages to entertain as well as inform, with more than one World Cup being told in great detail. Similarly, the run time of a movie that is not of interest is also a bit embarrassing!
Technical Aspects:
Speaking first about director Kabir Khan, he once again showed his level of talent with this film. Kabir Khan succeeds with his screenplay in an attempt to tell the story of Kapil Dev, who has earned millions of cricket fans, from an unknown angle. The film is also good in terms of making. Nowhere to distort production values. Cinematography is top class. The background score brought a feel to the film. Editing is also good. Technically, 83 is very rich.
Final Verdict:
The film is impressive in terms of how the Indian cricket team, led by legendary cricketer Kapil Dev, won the 1983 World Cup tournament. If not, the film is a slouch and lacks a lot of commercial elements. But how Kapil Dev hooks up with his game on the ground is well shown in this film. In a word, the film is a triumph of cricket past memories.
